Structural design in bridge and building engineering

Concept design. Execution planning. Steel and steel-composite construction.

  • Concept and design of load-bearing components in bridge and building engineering, for new structures as well as existing structures.
  • Auditable verification from design through execution planning, coordinated with structural boundary conditions and fabrication requirements.
  • Recalculation, assessment and strengthening design for existing structures, including damage analysis and determination of remaining reserves.
  • Through work in standardisation committees, we know the boundary cases of the rules. We advise and provide verification where standard approaches reach their limits, secured through analysis and testing.

Structural function analysis & structural mechanics

Load-bearing behaviour. Stability. Verification.

  • Systematic investigation of the load-bearing and deformation behaviour of structures and special constructions, up to identifying governing failure mechanisms and developing structural models as a basis for verification.
  • FEM analyses, parameter studies and nonlinear verifications such as GMNIA, validated numerically and, where required, experimentally.
  • Auditable type calculations and system verifications for construction products and load-bearing serial components as a basis for serial release and market introduction.
  • Verification according to Eurocode, SIA and international rules, prepared for building-authority review.

Product development & engineering (R&D)

Concept development. Design. Optimisation.

  • Development-accompanying verification and structural design of serial components and load-bearing systems from concept phase through serial maturity.
  • Parameter-based optimisation with FEM and experimental investigations as a basis for design models and type calculations. This reduces development loops and shortens the path to approval.
  • Preparation of auditable verification documents for approval procedures and building-authority approvals.
  • Experience in product development including scaffold and falsework systems, sheet-pile profiles, special steel structures and strengthening systems for existing structures.

Detailing & model-based planning (BIM)

BIM modelling. Digital tools and documentation.

  • 3D models based on the structural design, created by the same team that performs the verification. This reduces coordination effort and prevents transfer errors between calculation and detailing.
  • Execution and workshop drawings directly from the BIM model, coordinated with the requirements of steel and metal fabricators.
  • Coordination of structural and specialist models for continuous data transfer and fewer interfaces in the planning chain.

  • Assessment, damage analysis and recalculation of existing structures as a decision basis for continued operation, strengthening or replacement.
  • Independent expert opinions and technical statements for clients, contractors and design offices.
  • Concept evaluation and technical second opinions for demanding structures or verification concepts that are not clearly regulated.

Digital tools & methods

Customer-specific development of calculation and design tools.

  • Development of automated verification and design tools for your products and systems, for example for parametric dimensioning or proof checks.
  • Scripts and plugins for integration into existing planning and calculation environments.
  • Conversion of type calculations and verification concepts into usable software solutions for sales, technical departments or project planning.
